Pravaha Staircase

Pravaha Staircase

Inspired by the graceful curves of Kerala’s backwater canals and the silent motion of monsoon breezes, the Pravāha Staircase brings a sense of continual flow to modern interiors. Engineered with solid teak treads, crisp white risers, and a sleek glass-and-steel balustrade, Pravāha invites you to ascend in effortless grace. Each step feels like a gentle wave beneath your feet—rooted in tradition yet undeniably contemporary. Whether rising to a private study, a gallery of family heritage, or the cool calm of an upper lounge, the Pravāha Staircase becomes both a functional passage and a sculptural focal point. Its minimalist palette emphasizes the natural warmth of wood grain, while the transparent railing preserves sightlines and fills the volume with light—offering a journey upward that feels as poetic as it looks.

Sacred Parts, Timeless Wholeness

Each component reflects a story of devotion, culture, and skilled hands

Taranga Treads of Pravaha Staircase

Taranga Treads

These are the heart-and-soul of the staircase: solid teak planks hand-selected for their book-matched grain flow. Each tread is planed, sanded, and rounded to a gentle nose that welcomes bare feet, then finished with multiple coats of natural oil and wax until the wood gleams with inner life. As you step, you feel the warmth of centuries-old trees beneath you and sense the subtle wave-like rhythm the name “Taranga” (wave) implies.

Prithvi Stringers of Pravaha Staircase

Prithvi Stringers

Running along the sides, the Prithvi (earth) Stringers are the structural backbone. Carved from the same teak, they carry the weight of the treads and risers with invisible precision. Their surfaces are hand-chamfered and faintly faceted to catch passing glimmers of light, visually anchoring the staircase to the floor and walls.

Ṣaṅka Glass Balustrade of Pravaha Staircase

Ṣaṅka Glass Balustrade

Tempered, ultra-clear glass panels, held in place by minimal stainless-steel clamps, form the modern “Ṣaṅka” (conch) balustrade. The conch’s spiral is suggested in the staggered clamp layout, while the transparency keeps sight-lines open and the surrounding architecture uncluttered. Touch the smooth glass and feel its whisper-thin barrier between movement and air.

Pravāha Handrail of Pravaha Staircase

Pravāha Handrail

A continuous length of finely sanded teak—carved, rounded, and polished into the “Pravāha” (flowing current) Handrail. Mounted on invisible stainless-steel brackets, it sweeps gracefully along the top of the glass panels, guiding your hand in a seamless arc from bottom to top. Its warmth and smoothness feel effortless under your palm, the perfect counterpoint to the cool glass and crisp white risers.
