The Sunlit Lattice Pavilion is a seamless blend of heritage and innovation, harmoniously fusing Kerala’s traditional courtyard aesthetics with hints of Indo-western sophistication. Designed as a covered walkway or contemplative nook, the pavilion radiates warmth, organic light, and artisanal character through its patterned terracotta ceiling and lattice details.
Each component reflects a story of devotion, culture, and skilled hands
The Agni Chitra Ceiling celebrates terracotta’s elemental beauty: “Agni” nods to fired earth, “Chitra” to pattern or picture. Each tile is meticulously placed in traditional patterns, forming a breathable, radiant tapestry overhead. The Malayalam term recalls classic clay lattice ceilings found in Kerala manas and temples. This canopy balances artistry and climate control—cooling interiors, inviting natural airflow, and creating playful shadows that shift with the sun. It offers not just protection, but a living artwork overhead, marrying heritage comfort with visual enchantment, and providing a daily canvas of nature and tradition.
The Parampara Jaal Band stretches along pavilion edges as a refined screen, inspired by “parampara” (tradition) and “jaal” (lattice or net). Its Malayalam name reflects Kerala’s time-honored verandah screens, beloved for their privacy and breathability. Decorative brick and terracotta elements form rhythmic grids that frame both inside and garden views while permitting soothing breezes. Each segment recalls chuttu verandas, bridging gathering spaces and sanctuaries, and blending protection with visual openness. The band anchors the pavilion, setting the stage for social interaction, relaxed contemplation, and natural ventilation—celebrating heritage in every sightline
