Matanga Console

Matanga Console

Rising like a lone sentinel from the cool tile floor, the Matanga Console marries the noble heart of an elephant with exacting cabinet-making. Its half-moon tabletop—hand-planed and hand-polished—appears to float above a single, master-carved elephant head pedestal. Each anatomical detail of trunk, ears, and tusks is rendered in fluid relief, while lotus scrolls and vine motifs on the apron echo Kerala’s temple gateways. Paired with softly glowing brass inlays and a stepped base that lifts the form, the Matanga Console becomes more than furniture: it is a blessing of strength at your doorstep, a place to lay lamps and memories beneath its protective gaze. Whether you set a brass lamp on its shelf, arrange fresh blooms in a glass vase, or lean a carved mirror above it, the Matanga Console transforms entrances into sanctuaries. It bridges procession and pause—speaking of time’s gentle passage, the elephant’s measured steps, and the craft that channels both into a single, sculptural console.

Sacred Parts, Timeless Wholeness

Each component reflects a story of devotion, culture, and skilled hands

Aruna Crescent Top of Matanga Console

Aruna Crescent Top

A half-moon slab of seasoned hardwood, the Aruna Top is planed to a feather-light edge. Its gentle arc mirrors dawn’s first light on water, offering a smooth display surface for lamps, urns, or framed memories.

Matanga Mukha Pedestal of Matanga Console

Matanga Mukha Pedestal

The console’s singular support is a striking elephant-head carving—Matanga Mukha—complete with flared ears, intricately incised forehead patterns, and a downward-flowing trunk. Each tusk emerges from the apron’s scrollwork, creating a sculptural focal point that embodies both strength and grace.

Padma Scroll Apron of Matanga Console

Padma Scroll Apron

Below the tabletop, a continuous apron of hand-carved lotus and vine scrolls—Padma (lotus)—links the tabletop to the pedestal. Its flowing forms recall Kerala’s temple balustrades and water-garden borders, uniting console and craft in one rhythmic embrace.

Danta Support Brackets of Matanga Console

Danta Support Brackets

On either side of the elephant head, tusk-shaped Danta brackets curve downward to hold the tabletop’s overhang. Sculpted to match the pedestal’s tusks, they reinforce the shelf while harmonizing the console’s silhouette.

Bhumi Stepped Base of Matanga Console

Bhumi Stepped Base

A two-tiered plinth grounds the console—Bhūmi (earth)—lifting the apron clear of floor scuffs and lending structural rigidity. Its bold lines provide a sturdy pedestal for the sculptural drama above.
