This home rises as a manifesto of quiet modernity rooted in nature, a sanctuary where light, air, and earthy materials shape both rhythm and poetry. From the moment one approaches the broad wooden gates framed in clean concrete walls, the house whispers of balance — protection and openness, stillness and welcome.

Beyond the gate, the architecture reveals itself slowly, layered in sloping tiled roofs and angular forms, their geometry softened by palms, frangipani, and creepers embracing the edges. What could have been stark is instead softened into gentleness — a courtyard-house where the play of light and greenery defines the spirit.

Step past the threshold of Adrak International, and the world seems to exhale into golden harmony. The air is hushed, as though it knows you’ve entered not just a restaurant, but a chamber of quiet grandeur — a place where design, memory, and craft meet at the table.

One of the most distinctive features of a traditional Kerala house is its sloping roof. Covered with red clay tiles, the steeply pitched structure is designed to handle the region’s heavy monsoon rains, allowing water to drain quickly and efficiently. The roof extends well beyond the walls, creating deep overhangs that protect the house from harsh sunlight and wind-driven rain. These extended eaves also help keep the interiors cool by reducing direct heat exposure.

This project involved the complete woodwork specification and execution for an Ayurvedic spa compound built in the Kerala Nalukettu tradition. The brief required reclaimed teak throughout — structural columns, wall cladding, ceiling joists, doors with period ironmongery, and site furniture — with all material sourced from dismantled heritage houses. The result is a compound where no two panels read the same, grain patterns accumulate across rooms, and the age of the wood is openly visible rather than concealed.

The living room holds its antiques without apology. A Campaign chest in honey-toned wood sits in the courtyard zone, while a pair of blue wingback chairs ground one corner with old-world ease. The tufted Chester sofas and the dark lacquered coffee table create contrast that feels earned rather than arranged. Persian rugs layer underneath, and the ivory falcon sculpture perched on the sofa arm is the kind of detail that stops a conversation mid-sentence.
